Instead, you can change it something more compelling like:

Blog title Mistake #2 – Challenges

If you are in a 90-day blog challenge, are you writing Blog titles like this:

  • Day 32 – Getting Better Each Day
  • 90-Day Blog: Day 42
  • Day 45 of the 90-Day Blogging Challenge

If yes, this is a huge mistake. These type of blog titles do nothing for your SEO (search engine optimization). If your blog post did show up in search results, would it compel someone to click on it?

These type of blogging headlines do not convey any value to a reader or tell the reader what the post if about.

If you are in a blog challenge, write posts that provide real value to your target market and a title that

compels a person to click on it.

Before I get into some tips, let me answer the question: What is conversion rate optimization? A conversion is when a user takes some type of action on your website.

Also known as a call-to-action (CTA), it is what you want your visitor to do. For example:

  • Opt-in to email list
  • Purchase a product
  • Contact you
  • View a video
  • Download a file
  • or something else.

Do you have a call to action? If not, that is the first thing you need to improve. I read many blog posts that are wonderful and informative but have no call to action. Well, that won’t build your business or make you any money.

  • Create High-Quality Blog Posts – create posts that provide real value to your audience. Know the needs of your audience and write content that provides solutions to the problems they face. For example, if your audience are people who need to lose weight, you would provide content about weight loss and healthy living.
  • Include a Call to Action – if you write a blog post without telling a person what to do next, they won’t do anything. Have a focused call to action for each blog post that is congruent with the content and the solution you are providing.
  • Use Product Testimonials – when your visitors see testimonials from others about the results that they want, they’ll want to have the same product! Include product testimonials in your content to entice visitors to take action.
  • Add Video to Blog Posts – not everyone likes to read. By repurposing your blog post into a video you can capture another audience that prefers to watch videos. Be sure to embed the video in your blog post (as I have done here) and include a link to your blog post on the YouTube video page.

You can put these four tips into practice to start getting better conversion rate optimization results.

I am taking you behind the scenes in WordPress to show you how to create an SEO WordPress friendly URL.

In WordPress, the URLs are known as permalinks. They are used by search engines to for page or post discovery in search results. The default WordPress custom permalink structure uses a database number which is not pretty and gives no information about the blog post.

Using a WordPress friendly URL helps the search engines and helps users get more information about your posts and pages.

Selecting a permalink that is a WordPress friendly URL helps in the following ways:

  • Used by search engines for post or page discovery
  • Supplies a permanent location for blog visitors and search engines
  • A unique identifier for every piece of content on your blog

How to Change the Permalink Structure in WordPress

  1. From the WordPress dashboard, select Settings.
  2. Click Permalinks. The Permalinks page displays.
  3. Select a permalink structure

I prefer the Post Name WordPress permalink structure. For example, Post Name looks like this:

http://savvyonlinemarketing.com/what-is-content-marketing/

Whereas the Default WordPress URL structure is not SEO friendly and looks something like this:

http://savvyonlinemarketing.com/?p=123
